Root River Triathlon

The Root River Triathlon is a “doable”, non-swimming triathlon set in Southeast Minnesota's Root River valley in scenic Bluff Country.  Registration is now open for individuals and teams.

The first triathlon was held in 1998 by the City of Houston, Minnesota. Participation is open to men and women of every age (Young people of 17 years and younger with the consent of their guardian!!)

Participants begin by canoeing or kayaking six and one-half miles down river from Houston to Mound Prairie where they then hop onto their bikes for an eight-mile road ride back to Houston. Some hills en route are challenging (% grade) and demand an extra effort.  The race wraps up with a three-mile, fairly level run, starting on the Root River trail and then winding through the streets of Houston. The finish is at the Band Shell in beautiful Trailhead Park where the award ceremony will take place around noon.

Chippewa Triathlon

Chippewa Triathlon- The Chippewa Triathlon is a unique event that combines canoeing, biking, and running, all through the Chippewa National Forest in Cass Lake, Minnesota. The course follows the centuries-old "Pike Bay Connection". Approximate leg-Distances: 15-mile canoe (including 6 portages totaling 1.8 miles), 29-mile mountain bike, 5-mile trail run.  Final course is set right before the race based on wind, recent and forecasted weather, etc.

Cuyuna Off-Road Triathlon

Cuyuna Off-Road Triathlon - The Cuyuna Off-Road Triathlon is held at the world-renowned Cuyuna County State Recreation area in northern Minnesota. This off-road triathlon challenges participants to a 3-mile flat water paddle, 8.5-mile mountain bike ride, and 2.5-mile trail run.

Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon

Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon- This event is held in conjunction with Ballyhoos Lobsterfest.  The Black Squirrel Scurry is a triathlon that features a 2 mile paddle down the Prairie River, a 17.5 mile bike ride featuring the River Bend Trail out to the countryside of Lincoln County, and a 5k trail run through the Merrill Area Rec Complex and Council Grounds State Park. Races include divisions for 19 and Under Relays, Corporate Relays, Tandems, and  Aged divisions for individuals.  Proceeds from this event will be donated to the “Northwoods Veterans Post” and Friends of the River Bend Trail.  Timing is provided by T & H timing Services, LLC.  Registration

In between the event and the awards ceremony located at Ballyhoos, there will live music. Grab a lunch, sit back and enjoy the music! Raffle after awards!!  

W.I.L.D Hodag Mine-Triathlon

W.I.L.D. Hodag Mine-Triathlon - Join Mini-Triathletes at Holiday Acres Resort as Health In Motion and local Rhineland businesses play host to the W.I.L.D. Hodag Mini Triathlon. The 300yrd swim (or 1/2 mile kayak), 10k bike (off road) and 5k run courses will challenge athletes among the woods & waters of the scenic Northwoods. Proceeds to benefit W.I.L.D (Wise Intentional Leadership Development) to further Youth leadership skills internationally and locally.

Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge

Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge - The Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge Triathlon challenges participants to compete among the rugged hills of scenic southwestern Wisconsin's rural countryside and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Proceeds from this event benefit the Kickapoo Valley Reserve education program.

Paddle 7 miles down the winding Kickapoo River along rock outcroppings and through diverse vegetation. The river route begins at Bridge 7 and ends at the Bridge 14 transition area.

Road Bike 15 miles through the hilly Driftless area. The route takes you through the valleys and over the ridge in one of Wisconsin's most scenic rural landscapes. Steep climbs and rapid descents provide the ride of a lifetime! All cyclists must observe Wisconsin traffic laws. Helmets are required. Drafting is prohibited.

Trail Run 3 miles in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.  The course consists of winding and wooded trail and Old Highway 131 Multi-Use Trail, which is a deteriorating road bed.

The transition area is located on County P near Bridge 14 in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Parking for the race is offered at Bridge 14. A shuttle takes paddlers to the Bridge 7 start. The bike and run legs begin and end at the transition area.  Check-in, refreshments, and awards all happen here!

Y-Knot Tri

Y-Knot Tri - The Lake City Y-Knot Tri will take place at Ohuta Park. The event will consist of a 2.5 mile paddle on beautiful Lake Pepin, a 14 mile bike ride on a there and back route to Frontenac, and a 5K run along the river side. There are three options for registration.
1. Registrants can sign up as an individual and complete all three legs of the race; OR
2. Registrants can sign up as two person team – paddle together in a kayak or canoe and then complete the last two legs individually (participants would share the same paddle time); OR
3. Registrants can sign up on a three person relay team – each person completes one leg of the race
